Samsung, in addition to unveiling its new premium Galaxy smartphone at this year’s MWC event in Barcelona, also announced a new Gear 360 spherical camera.

The South Korean company had revealed at MWC that it would make the Gear 360 available from the second quarter of 2016 in certain countries without mentioning the price of the device. Now, a third-party online retailer has listed the Samsung Gear 360 at $ 349.99 (roughly Rs 23,000) with a “coming soon” tag. Samsung has yet to reveal which countries will get the new Samsung Gear 360 device.

It is a 360 degree camera that allows consumers to create, view and share their videos and still images. Samsung at MWC pointed out that the Gear 360 is designed for travel, party gatherings, and all in-between activities.

The Samsung Gear 360 is equipped with two fisheye lenses, both with 15 megapixel image sensors. The sensors can capture high-resolution 360-degree video (3840×1920 pixels) which also supports 30-megapixel stills. The Gear 360 also allows consumers to shoot 180-degree wide-angle videos and images using only one side of the camera lens. It contains Bright Lens F2.0, which Samsung claims can create high resolution images in low light conditions and allow users to create full panoramic videos.

The device sports a light and compact spherical design. The Gear 360 would be compatible with a wider selection of accessories and mounts currently available on the market.

The biggest highlight of the Gear 360 is that it can be synced with a Samsung smartphone to preview content recorded or filmed by the device in real time. The Gear 360 automatically displays filmed content so that users can view and save it on their smartphone or download and share it directly on social networks, including Google Street View. The recorded Gear 360 videos are also compatible with Samsung’s Gear VR, providing users with a full 360-degree virtual reality experience.

The Gear 360 requires a dedicated mobile app that can be downloaded from the Galaxy Apps store and Google Play. According to Samsung, the Gear 360 is compatible with certain Samsung smartphones, including the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge +, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 Edge, and Galaxy S6.

The Gear 360 is IP53 certified, providing protection against dust and water spray at any angle up to 60 degrees from vertical.
