Apple’s new guidelines will take effect from January 31, 2022

iOS 15 adds a nifty new feature where, instead of having to give camera access to every UPI payment app you use, the task of making an online payment can be simply handled by scanning a UPI QR. directly from the main iPhone camera app. The update comes courtesy of the latest iOS software update and is one of several new features that iOS 15 is adding to the table. This particular feature is specific to India and is very useful given the ubiquity of online payments, especially in metropolitan markets.

How to Make UPI Payments in iOS 15

To make UPI payments through the main camera app in iOS 15, follow these steps:

  • Go to Settings, head to Camera and scroll down to find the “Scan QR Codes” option. Activate it.
  • Once powered on, open the default camera app and point it to a relevant UPI QR code.
  • After the code is scanned, users will find a pop-up window just below the scanned code, with the name of the last used UPI application mentioned.
  • Tap the name of the app, then tap “Open” on the next screen that asks you to allow the Camera app to open the UPI app.
  • Follow the usual following steps that you usually take to complete the UPI payment

How to change the default payment app

To change the app you want to make a payment through, follow these steps:

  • Repeat the first four steps as mentioned above.
  • Once the first UPI app name appears, you will also find a QR icon at the bottom right of the screen.
  • Press the QR button to bring up a floating menu containing all the UPI apps you have saved on your phone.
  • Tap the desired app you want to pay through and allow the Camera app to open the preferred UPI app.

The move ensures that you don’t need to separately give each UPI app camera access to use them. It also improves the overall user experience, as you can just use one medium to scan QR UPIs and make payments as you need. To get the feature, make sure to update your iPhone to iOS 15.
