the Tecno Phantom X launched late last year as the company’s flagship offer – and the first Tecno phone with a borderless 3D screen.

It was priced at 228,000, or around P 28,376 in Philippine pesos and $ 557 in US dollars, when it launched in Nigeria.

The display is obviously one of its biggest highlights, with the Phantom X boasting a large 6.7-inch AMOLED curved screen with FHD + resolution, Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, a fingerprint reader. built-in digital cameras and a 90Hz refresh rate for a smooth Android experience.

As expected, the specs under the hood are also pretty decent, although the lack of a 5G modem is unfortunate given the price. The Tecno Phantom X is powered by a MediaTek Helio G95 SoC, which is equipped with 8 GB of RAM and Mali-G76 graphics. The 256GB of basic storage is also nice.

Keeping the Lights On is a 4,700mAh battery that provides all-day use based on our testing and supports 33-watt fast charging on a USB-C port. The phone is working Tecno MobileThe Android HiOS skin based on Android 11.

But the real highlight here are the front and rear camera systems. Impressively, the Tecno Phantom X has dual front cameras – one with a 48-megapixel main sensor and another with an ultra-wide-angle lens for group selfies or selfies where you want to be in more of the back – plan.

The real highlight

On the back, you get a 50-megapixel main camera paired with a 13-megapixel telephoto lens and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide option. You won’t find a fancy 2-megapixel sensor here.

That being said, it’s reasonable to expect big things from the Phantom X – at least from an imagery perspective. It is by far the best performing Tecno phone on the market today, with five dedicated cameras in total.

So how did it work? Very well, actually. Check out these images, courtesy of our Tecno Phantom X unit.

First off, this image shows how capable the Phantom X is of isolating the subject and defocusing the background. Notice the natural bokeh effect, as well as the different levels of background blur applied to different areas of the image.

The Tecno Phantom X is also capable of excellent portraits even with multiple people – or potential subjects – in the frame. We were impressed with how the handset was able to recognize and lock in a subject consistently.

This phone tends to do well with its edge detection in Portrait mode.

The Phantom X includes a dedicated camera for zooming, but digital magnification reaches its limit at 20x. Still, you can get great photos between 2x and 5x which should be enough for most casual shots.

When it comes to night shots, the smartphone doesn’t disappoint, offering good dynamic range and low-light detail. As you can see below, it also has the ability to brighten up an image without turning off lights and signage.
